Draw The Line <底线> is one of the few modern dramas that I could find from Cheng Yi’s recent works and so of course, I have to watch it, heh. Draw The Line depicts the everyday lives of citizens and how the judges are involved to solve the problems using law. We also get to see how some people try to get around the law.
The main cast is Jin Dong, Cheng Yi and Cai WenJing as below:
- Jin Dong is Fang Yuan, Chief Judge
- Cheng Yi is Zhou YiAn, apprentice of Fang Yuan and also a judge
- Cai WenJing is Ye Xin, a judge who transferred from the Supreme Court
There’s also some other casts but I only watched mostly ep 30 to 40 where Zhou YiAn is dealing with a very challenging case, his last case before he leaves the Court and goes to become a lawyer. He eventually made the case happen as in solve it, met a life-changing incident and decided to stay with the court after it. Zhou YiAn also confessed to Ye Xin (I think ep 36 if anyone would like to zoom in to that) and finally become a couple with her.
Below is a shot of Cheng Yi in modern garb as Zhou YiAn! He’s very often in Xianxia or Wuxia dramas so he does look different when not wearing the long hair gear.
In China, they also dubbed Cheng Yi as a 剧抛脸 which is a c-net slang used to describe an actor/actress who is able to abandon or cast away the previous drama’s face “抛弃了上部戏的脸”. Basically, it means the actor is able to act/portray each drama’s character and does not have the shadow of the previous drama’s character.
