Queen of Tears – Ep 16 Finale

Congrats to the cast of Queen of Tears for achieving ratings of 24.850% for its Ep 16 finale episode and broke Crash Landing’s record to become tvN #1 highest ratings drama.

That aside, Ep 16 is also makjang in a way that I couldn’t believe some of its plot points, a continuation from the prev episode, but I really enjoyed this drama especially from Ep 1 to 12, it goes downhill from Ep 13 but I am glad we got our happy ending in the final episode after so much tears, ups, downs and unbelievable plot points towards the end. I guess at the end of the day, everything adds up, everytime the plot goes cray cray, it generated buzz, everytime KSH cries it generated buzz, KJW’s luxurious and well-coordinated wardrobe choices is also a buzz point and of course her lovely visuals, I also liked uri Aunt with her new love interest from Yongduri, the cinematography, the subtle animated transition scenes, and the many parallel scenes that are linked in one way or other – so many, I could go on. Did I say this already? Queen of Tears is love and KSH and KJW has me as their newly minted fans. (I wasn’t so into My Love from the Star or Fight for my Way.)

Ep 16 – after his accident, we have Baek HyunWoo run from the hospital to go rescue his wife in a taxi! (Did you all see how he tumble all the way up the car and down onto the road?) Oh well, he managed to rescue his wife, and even took a bullet for her when EunSang went cray cray over “if I can’t have her, you can’t have her too.” Anyways he died. His mother visited the mortuary, and when she came out, first thing she said was his shares are all hers now. Sigh – what a mother, EunSang craved for love his entire life and never got it even after death.

Baek HyunWoo was in surgery and then unconscious for a while – but he soon woke up and recovered from the accident and gunshot, he even had a joking moment with HaeIn over her burnt diary. HaeIn is still not able to recover fully from the lost memories but HyunWoo is her ideal type and she would fall in love with him even if she were to be reborn a hundred times (call back from an earlier episode at HyunWoo’s condo apt.)

We have the court scene of the Hong family getting back their assets, and Ms Moe is dragged off by the police for the attempted murders of HaeIn’s elder brother and grandfather. Grace helped to steal the cctv recordings from EunSang.

Back at Queen’s, HaeIn is denying to Secretary Na that she is waiting for HyunWoo’s proposal again. But she is waiting for it as we witnessed both of them taking a stroll at a beautiful park of cherry blossoms – HaeIn confessed she was waiting to be proposed but then she also want to be wooed again, HyunWoo can only hug her after holding her hands for five times. HyunWoo wants to have breakfast with her everyday, take walks, and travel with her through the different seasons. Actually both are wary of marriage life taking a toll on them again so they want to take it slow plus HaeIn has NOT recovered her full memories yet.

And then we transitioned to some years later, HyunWoo and HaeIn are back at their favourite Germany tourist spot – and then back again another time with their little daughter together with them – a family of three.

And then we further transitioned to see an older man with grey hair (back view only) at the same tourist spot and also putting flowers on a grave that says Hong HaeIn died in 2074, born 1990. She lived to a ripe old age of 84!

And the final scene, we have HyunWoo at the Lavender field – transitioning from old man to young man and HaeIn as a young lady was there as well. They smiled at each other and held hands and then fading to a long shot of the Lavender field. The end.

[Now Knetz has their own interpretation of the ending scene – they think that HaeIn is back to fetch HyunWoo to heaven because (again) it’s a call-back to one of their convos, she said before that if you have someone you know is coming as an angel to bring you to heaven then death does not seemed as scary as it should be. And that’s why she appeared again and both of them smiled at one another and held hands and going off together.]
