Celebrity and CP Supertopics Both Taken Down on Friday, including Celebrity Rankings

Friday 27 August was probably a day in the making of Chinese Entertainment history where there were a fair bit going on:

Firstly, it started a few days ago (can’t rem which day) when Zhao Liying’s fandom started “organised” efforts to petition against her pairing with Wang Yibo again. Their efforts were so organised and disruptive (or destructive I guess) that the Chinese government decided to step in. Her fan groups were banned from posting anything for 15 days (I think), along with Wang Yibo’s (if I am not wrong). And then yesterday 27 Aug, it was announced that Weibo or any social platforms could no longer post any ranking of celebrity or CPs of their Supertopics. This comes after a series of many accumulative incidents caused by so many celebrities and their fandom, not because of a solo incident from Zhao’s fans.

Second, news of Zheng Shuang being hit with a tax evasion fine of 299 million yuan broke and her fan group accounts were banned from posting anything anymore. This news does not shock anyone as it is a matter of time before she’s handed this verdict, as we all know from her surrogacy scandal earlier this year in January that she’s not going to escape from China’s strict governance. Plus her ex-husband Zhang Heng is also implicated.

Third, shows of Zhao Wei a.k.a. Vicki Zhao started disappearing from various streaming platforms, her name also removed from many shows from ages ago such as My Fair Princess, Romance In The Rain, Painted Skin etc. Nobody knows what’s going on, only guesses. Some say she did not manage her talents well, referring to Zhang Zhehan’s scandal which is the most recent event, while some referred to her long-standing controversies which you can read from her Wiki. AND THEN she also started withdrawing ownership from many companies but I don’t know what the companies do and why she needs to withdrawn from them. You have to owe to C-Netz for being able to spot all these when there aren’t any official announcements, these were just done quietly.

Anyways, I seldom post such entertainment news because I’m too slow to write them, lol. By the time I get to it, it’s old old news. But it’s affected me this morning because every morning I would check celebrity ranking for dramas and I realised this morning that there is no more of such! The ban of ranking don’t just apply to Weibo “celebrity” supertopic ranking or “CP” supertopic ranking, but across all social platforms. I checked a few accounts and really they aren’t publishing it. Having a ranking banned means the fandom can’t be doing crazy efforts to ensure their idol stay #1.

26 August was the last day for celebrity ranking.
