The Man From Nowhere (2010)

Finally watched Won Bin in The Man From Nowhere or a.k.a Ahjussi after hearing so much about it. This is probably the first film I have watched Won Bin in and I must say it is quite impressive, especially of the action sequences in the film. The only thing I was not prepared for was the violence and gory scenes, yes I had gotten in without knowing much about the show.

*spoilers ahead*

He has his head low most of the time, looking at what he was doing or not paying attention to the neighbour’s little girl So-Mi (Kim Sae-Ron) when he actually has a keen sense of what is going on. You know right-away that this Ahjussi, Cha Tae-Sik (Won Bin) is hiding or in denial of his past of some sort. Side track, for some reason this Ahjussi character reminds me a lot of Jason Bourne except Bourne had no memory of who he was until later. Ahjussi does not seem to have a strong purpose in life any more except to run the little pawn shop. There is obviously an important appointment he had to attend to because he took out his solemn dark suit and started ironing it. And there, you would see him dressed in this dark suit for most of the film thereafter. No doubt he does look good in that only suit he had. He goes after the bad guys who had kidnapped his neighbour’s daughter with a vengeance, and soon you realised that he had actually lost one of his own, and that is probably why he felt the need to protect this little girl when he still has the ability to do so. He couldn’t do anything but watch his wife who is pregnant with his child died in front of him from a deliberate car crash from one of his enemies.

Soon you discover that the bad guys are villains to the core where they would use the orphans (abandoned or kidnapped children) as mules to pick up and deliver drugs. The children are also used to manufacture or pack the drugs in an abandoned building and when they collapsed from sniffing in the drugs while working, their body organs are taken out of their bodies to be sold! This is all horrible business and the Ahjussi is here to stop it all and save his little neighbour at the same time.

Good action sequences, slight thriller because you worry about the safety of the little girl if she was going to be harvested for her organs, but you know that it is not going to happen.

A good review of the film I found: http://saryre.blogspot.sg/2012/06/k-movie-review-man-from-nowhereahjussi.html
