Heartbreak Library (2008)

As a fan of Lee Dong Wook, I have known this movie for a while now and finally got around to watching it tonight. FYI, Heartbreak Library is also known as Page 198 In His Book, which I thought is much aptly named than the official English title.

First off, the movie poster is not what it seems for in the movie. In the show, Eugene starring as Eun-soo, a librarian has long hair; second, both leads did not progress to such “intimate state” in the movie as opposed to what you see in the poster. So I guess I got lucky that I got around to the movie without realising that this poster is for the movie.

Synopsis:

The movie started off with Eun-soo waking up and getting to work at the library. She and her assistant are wary of book vandalism that is happening in the library. So happens that one day, she catches Jun-oh (Lee Dong Wook) tearing off pages of the books and Eun-soo caught him in action. Soon enough, she discovers that he only tears off a certain page from the books, while she was trying to fix the torn pages. He also found out that one could actually photocopy pages from the books rather then tearing. (Duh!) So in another encounter with Jun-oh, she asked him why did he do what he was doing. And from there, she got to know the complicated reason behind his actions.

Jun-oh’s girlfriend had suddenly left him with a mysterious note behind a photograph “Look up page 198”. Jun-oh’s girlfriend had checked out books frequently at the library, therefore Jun-oh goes to the library and tears out page 198 from every book that he comes in touch with. As Eun-soo has just broken up in a relationship, she gives him advice saying that he ought to let her go if she really meant it. However, looking at Jun-oh torn apart by his love, Eun-soo starts to help him find the messages on page 198 of all the books that she had borrowed.
